Surface Types (Modern)

Polyester (Plastic)

  • Very low friction
  • Minimal hook
  • Common uses:
    • Spare shooting
    • House balls
  • Best on dry or very short oil conditions

Urethane

  • Medium friction
  • Smooth, controlled motion
  • Hooks earlier than polyester but less than reactive resin
  • Often used on:
    • Short oil patterns
    • Sport patterns
  • Many house balls are urethane

Reactive Resin

  • High friction
  • Strong hook potential
  • Designed to react aggressively to dry boards
  • Used primarily for strike shots
  • Variants include:
    • Solid reactive
    • Pearl reactive
    • Hybrid reactive
